Some possibilities from an old EVE forums thread.
It's all about the immortal clones and the Xtian Amarr bible (KJV):
Dust, as in Genesis 2:7 And the lord god formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
and 514 as in Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead
Immortal clones -> Dust 5:14
A second hypothesis.
PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE! THINK!
CCP said after the first trailer was shown that an Eve player could work out what the title refers to. Since nobody here seems to have figured it out yet I will give you half of it.
In the presentation it is referred as DUST 5-14. That is Five Fourteen. Not Five One Four. Not five hundred and fourteen nor fifty-one four. Now as an Eve player you are not required to know the bible or any other holy scripture or Mandarin/Cantonese. Maybe the Amarr scriptures but the solution is not there.
Watch the trailer again for the presentation. Facts:
1. Part of it takes place in Intaki 2. There is a ishukune space station in the trailer. There is none atm. 3. Ishukone won the blind auction the rights to "develop" the Intaki system and this system only. Just look at the news archive on this. 4. Read also the chronicle Blind Auction on the above. 5. Ishukone developed and marketed the pod technology after acquiring it from the Jovians. 6. The only way you would call something 5-14 in Eve is.... Planet 5 moon 14 or planet 5 belt 14. Look point #2....right.
(Future) Ishukone Station at Intaki 5-14 is where the new cloning technology is going to be developed/invented. DUST 514 is lke the codename of the project like the Spartan project in Halo. Now you know where 514 refers to. If you figure out DUST I will give you a cookie.
A third.
"For the hope of the ungodly is like dust that is blown away with the wind, like a thin froth that is driven away with the storm: like as the smoke which is dispersed here and there with a tempest, and passeth away as the remembrance of a guest that tarieth but a day."
Wisdom of Solomon, 5:14 (From the biblical apocrypha of the 1611 King James Version)
A fourth.
Many of these are either good coincidences, between the Mandarian Chinese (hell I don't know if it's right, I haven't even bothered to verify if it's actually chinese or not) and some scriptures, but if it were to refer to any it would be the Amarr:
"Which test reveals more of the soul, the test that a man will take to prove his faith, or the test that finds the man who believed his faith already proven? If you know this answer, then you also know which of these challenges bear the greatest penalty for failure. The gates of paradise will open for you one time only; woe to the soul who dares to knock twice." - The Scriptures, Book of Missions 5:14
Highly likely this refers to pod pilots, and how they are damned by cheating death through cloning, and that royal Amarr flesh is considered sacred and uncloneable. Code-naming it DUST 514 may refer to the cloning of elite drop soldiers so that, much like an pod pilot, a resource (the essence of the human being, the soul and consciousness) is never lost.
Many have tried. The only clue CCP ever gave was that the answer to the games name is in the trailer. |
